This personal experience occurred many years ago. Broke, busted, and disgusted I, Kamryn's mom, literally had nothing to give. Out of work, food, and homeless. When ever times are tough I give to others to elevate my sense of well being and purpose. But what? I saw a sign asking to donate blood. I thought I can literally 'give' of myself. Right there and then I gave my first pint. Now with tighter restriction on blood donation I'm forbidden due to having lived in Europe at a certain time. It's a Mad Cow Disease issue appartently from what I've been told. What's your excuse?

Consider offering gifts besides money. Are there any possessions you no longer use: clothes, car, something in the attic, etc? What about blood, donate your hair, time to a youth, etc. We'll supply ideas and don't settle if you are not inspired by our suggestions, google your own ideas? We are thankful that you are considering helping others. Not only will you be blessing someone, but you will feel better inside for it.

After Kamryn grew his hair for Locks of Love, and suffered for it via taunts of children because he had a Mullet hair style for several years, he inspired me to grow mine in support of his efforts. He had 16 inches cut and 13 avaible for donation. After about four years and working hard to grow my own hair long enough that there would be some tail left once chopped off I finally set the appointment. Four years to grow and three minutes to chop it off. Sigh? The kids are worth it. Please check out the sight and see how great the kids look with their new hair do's:)

This sight will hook you up to teachers from around the country that have needs for their students. This year, 2008, Amplify Academy is starting a program that affords World Vision to purchase farm animals to help families have nutritious foods, like milk from a goat and eggs from chickens, for their families to eat and also sell in order to provide income; soccer balls for children to play; fishing gear to assist villages to provide food for their families; and more.
We are buying the gift of life in the name of the person who we traditionally gave a store bought or home made gift to. Our idea is to make fudge or some sort of homemade treat to include with the card provided by World Vision saying exactly what gift theirs is replacing for children and families around the world. During the holidays we have been buying up discounted metal tins to house the gifts of fudge. This is just one idea. For as little as the cost of a dinner we can provide a few chickens. The list goes on and on. Top notch photographers donate their time to photograph many children left in the cracks of the social services system for various reasons. These photos stand out as they are intended to show the world a blessed part of the child's personality as opposed to the traditional school type photo with a rare smile from these hurting children as young as infant and as old as ready to age out of the system. Aging out is the time a child turns 18 years old and they are no longer entitled to be helped by the system that sucked them dry of life for so many years because no one was able to help them. Although the government now provides some assistence for these youth, it's never enough when you don't have love to fill the lonely hearts of some many children. If you google Heart Gallery you'll discover other states that need loving families as well. If you know someone considering adoption please forward them this information. These children need our help.

It's not about any particular organization (there are plenty of good ones out there), a corporation (we don't even have Annie's splashed in a big letters across the whole thing), or trying to get anyone elected (though some of us love a good challenge). Instead, BE GREEN lets people know that you're an earth advocate and that you care about what happens on our small planet.
